The designation also allows international graduates on F-1 visas to work in the United States for an additional 24 months via the extended Optional Practical Training (OPT), totaling 36 months.
This extended duration and designation is attractive to employers interested in hiring international students.
Internship Requirement
All MAcc students must complete a qualified internship in accounting. Internships provide valuable professional experience, enhance career readiness, and help prepare you for the Uniform CPA Exam. Your internship must be completed after conferral of your undergraduate degree.
We strongly recommend completing your internship either the summer before or the summer after your core and elective coursework. To maximize your chances of securing a summer internship:
- If targeting the summer before your program coursework, begin your search in the Fall of your Junior year.
- If targeting the summer after your program coursework, begin your search in the Fall of your Senior year.
Delaying your search until after admission or the start of your program may reduce your opportunities.
The program also offers a spring internship through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, which can be completed concurrently with your coursework during the spring semester. Our team provides career advising support throughout the internship recruitment process.
